Our Work

At Girls Talk, our work is grounded in the lived experiences of girls. We recognize that while challenges may differ across regions, every girl deserves to feel safe, heard, educated, and empowered. Our approach is youth-centered, trauma-informed, and community-based.

Mentorship & Leadership Development

We connect girls with local and global role models through mentorship programs, leadership boot camps, and life skills workshops. Our goal is to nurture the confidence, ambition, and leadership potential of every girl.

2

Women’s Health, Menstrual Hygiene & Well-being

Our work in women’s health includes access to SRHR information, menstrual hygiene management education, and overall health literacy. We break stigma, distribute sanitary products, and support girls in managing their health and bodily autonomy with dignity.

3

Advocacy Against Harmful Traditional Practices

With a strong focus in The Gambia, this area of our work tackles harmful practices like Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), child marriage, and forced unions. We engage communities through education, storytelling, and policy advocacy to protect girls’ rights.

4

Empowerment & Social Justice

We create platforms for girls to raise their voices and lead social change. From community activism to media training, our work empowers girls to write, speak, and act for justice in their communities and beyond.

5

Education & Career Development

We support girls’ academic success and career goals through tutoring, scholarships, career coaching, and digital literacy programs. We believe that education is a powerful tool for transformation.

6

Mental Health Support & Awareness

Through school-based programs, peer support spaces, and professional referrals, we help girls prioritize their mental and emotional wellbeing. We work to destigmatize mental health and make care accessible.

Where We Work

At Girls Talk, our roots are grounded in The Gambia, where we began our journey in 2018 to create safe spaces for girls to learn, lead, and thrive. Today, we have expanded our mission across borders to the United States, building a global sisterhood united by a shared vision: a world where every girl has the right to safety, dignity, education, and opportunity.
